Finding Local Food Is Miles Better

Farmers Markets in Southern Scotland

There is an interesting and uplifting experiment going on in Southern Scotland at the moment where a group of 50 people are restricting themselves to buying and eating food which has been sourced within a 50 miles radius of their homes. As an exercise in sustainable living and restricting your food miles it is highly commendable. However, it goes beyond that as it also demonstrates the variety and richness of local produce in Southern Scotland. The Gemmell family from Peebles are keeping a 50 mile food diary and you can keep up with their experiences on the BBC website. And if you are moved to investigate the joys of our local food, check out the market calendar on the Scottish Farmers Markets site to find out when the next event is on.
