Remember we mentioned the best places to view snowdrops in Scotland? It seems there is a name for snowdrop mania – galanthophile – and if you listen to BBC Radio 4 this afternoon you will hear all about it and about the astonishing 700 varieties of snowdrop.

According to the programme, Britain is in the grip of snowdrop mania and there is a “murky underworld of snowdrop collecting among the enthusiasts”. Oh dear. We recommend anyone visiting one of our special snowdrop spots enjoys the experience, the fresh air and the scenery and resists the lure of illicit snowdrop rustling.

Snowdrop Mania, presented by Kerry ten Kate is on BBC Radio 4 at 2.45pm.
