Black Galloway: A Ray of Light in Castle Douglas

Black Galloway. No it’s not a wet day in January. Rather it’s a fine ale created by Sulwath Brewers of Castle Douglas in Kirkcudbrightshire. Possibly best known for their lighter ales, Sulwath entered Black Galloway for this year’s Camra Winter Beer of Britain Championship and were thrilled to score a silver. As you might suspect, it’s as dark as its name, deriving its tones from deeply roasted Maris Otter barley and chocolate malts. Worth tracking down at the visitor centre, where you can also enjoy a tour of the brewery and learn the secrets of their seasonal and speciality beers. More information from the Sulwath Bewers website.
